The Art! at the St. Johns Town Center Wrap-up!!

Saturday's show was by far my favorite art show yet!! It was a seriously amazing day. There were so many wonderful artists and musicians there. I had such a good time and chatted with tons of great people. The weather was beautiful and perfect, so much so I came home with a wicked sunburn, but it was totally worth it. I got to speak with a couple other photographers and pick their brains, which is always fun, and came away with some different resources and suggestions.

Thank you to everyone who came out! I hope to get to do another show there someday, or at least another daytime outdoor show. So much fun!!! Check out these shots from the day....

Art! at the St. Johns Town Center

This Saturday, April 25th, is the Art! at the St. Johns Town Center show. It will feature about 20 local artists and their work, as well as the music of several local musicians. It is being put on by local art connoisseur, Joe VanDyke, and will be set up in the green in front of Maggiano's from noon til 7pm. I will be showing my collection of photo boxes, as well as some prints and cards. Please come by and support our local arts and be sure to stop by and see me and say hi!!!

etsy pick o da week!

This week's pick is one that elicits a feeling of nostalgia. Not exactly for my own childhood era, but that of my mother. My grandmother had a big house on a hill, the whole side covered in ivy, in a small town in Tennessee. But the best part was her attic. She had all sorts of treasures hidden up there and my sisters and I would always look forward to visiting her and spending our afternoons up there sorting through our mom and uncle's old toys. At the time, I was a HUGE Shirley Temple fan, so when I found my mom's old Shirley Temple paper dolls, I was thrilled!! Yes, paper dolls! Remember those?! Haven't seen another in years...until today!

SHARLZNDOLLZ has brought back the simple pleasure of putting together your own paper friend with her ethereal dolls made of beautifully decorated paper. She offers some cloth dolls, which she calls "softies", and bags, as well. Check out her hero male collection, too, which strangely resembles the Backstreet Boys. Who knew they were actually heroes??

etsy Pick o' da Week!

You have got to brace yourself for this week's pick- it is simply astounding!! To be honest I initially was going to post this seller's first shop, suili, as my pick, where she offers sweet crocheted flowers. But when I checked out her second shop, papercutdiecut, I knew I had to write up this one! She actually cuts out these amazingly intricate designs, including florals, landscapes, and even people, BY HAND, using rice paper! You have got to check out "View", which is currently on page 4. It's a 4-layered, hand-cut landscape with beautiful warm tones. Take a look at all the close up pictures, as well. They're just indescribable! Definitely worth more than priced. I can't imagine how mcuh time and care went into making each piece.

This is especially awesome to me, as I have just started wood carving, which is similar to paper cutting, so it's great to have someone to look up to who is so detailed, but still puts so much feeling into her art. I will go ahead and list both her sites below. So, be sure to check them out, and support her wonderful talents if you can!!

April Downtown Art Walk Wrap-up

The Downtown Art Walk last night went really well. Though not many people showed up due to the tremendous amounts of rain, I still made a few sales and got some great feedback! It was exciting to have my very own storefront! Now that I know what it looks like, I plan to create a more attractive display for next month. I will also have a small display in Hemming Plaza.
Also, thanks to Ann Teague manning my display, I was able to take a walk around the city to check out all the other artists, and all I can say is....wow. There were some truly breathtaking artists out there. Really inspiring.
I definitely recommend everyone come out next month. There are sites all throughout downtown that have displays, bands, and activities. They even give out free food and alcohol! I can't wait for next month's!!!!
